Dear John,
Today, Inequality Media is launching our year-end fundraising campaign with a goal of raising $300,000 by January 1, and this might be our most important year-end fundraising campaign yet.
Because I sincerely believe that 2026 will be the pivotal year where we either turn the tide against Trump’s authoritarianism — or see American democracy slip into the darkness.
I never thought I’d see the day in America when masked federal agents would be kidnapping people off the streets. Or when a president would be trying to force late-night comics off the air because they made fun of him. Or when the National Guard would be deployed to wage war on American cities.
The American people are fed up. Trump’s net approval ratings have dropped more than 20 points, and as the walls close in, Trump is only becoming more dangerous.
That’s why the stakes are so high as we move into 2026, and in my humble opinion, there’s no better organization where you can donate your money to stop Trump than Inequality Media.
I will explain more below why I feel so strongly about the effectiveness of our work at Inequality Media, but first I’d like to ask you to please chip in whatever you can to help meet our critically important year-end fundraising goal.
Inequality Media has spent decades building a huge following across social media so we can reach tens of millions of people. Our work consistently connects with people from all walks of life — regardless of age, political affiliation, or geographical location, and we know from scientific message testing that our videos are breaking through.
We’ve just cracked a combined 5 million followers on Facebook and 1 million followers on Threads. We’re about to surpass 1.5 million each on TikTok, YouTube, and Twitter, and 2.2 million on Instagram.
But, as we all know well, there’s much more to do. A lot more. To build on our success in 2025, in 2026 we will:
-
Refine our testing to ensure that we’re reaching the right audiences with the most effective messaging that moves people toward worker-focused policies by as much as 10 to 15 points. (Normally, moving the needle by just 2–3 points is great, but we often move the needle by double digits! Including conservatives and independents!)
-
Continue to optimize on emerging platforms such as Bluesky, where we now have nearly a million followers.
-
Distribute our most persuadable messages on billboards to reach audiences in unexpected areas.
-
Produce more videos tailored to platforms like TikTok and Instagram, meeting young people where they are and making complex issues more accessible.
-
Expose disinformation, especially on issues like inflation, health care, education, corporate power, and the corruption of Big Money, where the mainstream media has often failed to hold those in power accountable.
-
Develop more educational resources for schools, fortifying teachers to help the next generation better understand civics and the economic and political forces shaping their lives.
-
Tapping new experts as presenters to expand our audiences and deepen our content.
-
Collaborate with other progressive organizations to share our most resonant messages and amplify our impact, strengthening the broader movement for change.
-
Reckon with the 250th anniversary of the United States to explore the current state of the nation with a series of videos, community outreach, and in-person events.
So please, if you’re able, please consider making a year-end contribution today. Your support will ensure that we can continue our work — to challenge the misinformation, educate the public, and drive the kind of change that’s needed now more than ever.
Every donation, no matter the size, helps us reach more people, tell more stories, and create more opportunities for change.
Thank you,
Robert Reich
