American democracy has been put through a gauntlet in 2025.

It started with Republicans in North Carolina trying to overturn the result of a free and fair election for state supreme court. Thanks to people like you, democracy ultimately prevailed.

Then powerful right-wing interests, including Elon Musk, spent millions to try to buy a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court and flip the balance of power. Our movement fought back, and won the day.

But we continue to face existential, anti-democracy threats.

Conservatives have petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to effectively strike down the Voting Rights Act and upend the voting power of communities of color in America. We anxiously await that ruling.

And throughout the last five months, Republicans have thrust the nation into a shameful redistricting crisis orchestrated by the Trump White House. They’re trying to rig the outcome of the midterm elections so they can’t lose. The ultimate outcome of their cynical power grab remains up in the air.

A lot remains uncertain, but if you take one lesson away from the past year, let it be this:

Some folks on the other side want you to believe they’re all-powerful. They want you to be dispirited and pessimistic about our future. But we’ve seen time and again that it’s a lie.

When we organize, when we stand up for justice, when we show some backbone and defend what makes this country exceptional, we have real power — together, we keep proving that the American people will not give up our democracy without a fight.
