| After an extended Summer Recess, the Legislature reconvenes on July 27. As the legislature returns, NPH wants to make sure that our lawmakers see the support and enthusiasm that has gotten SB 899 to this point. Hundreds of faith leaders in California have already shown support for this bill, affirming the sentiment that "we live out our faith by providing food and shelter to those in need." SB 899 is designed to directly address housing segregation throughout our state by opening up exclusive communities of opportunity to affordable housing development. We're counting on you to contact your local lawmaker and tell them to support SB 899. As the bill heads to the Assembly, now is the moment for us to come together to show our lawmakers how important housing is to our region. Call the Assembly Housing Committee and use the form below to tweet and email your Assemblymember telling them to support this bill: |

| | The Metropolitan Transportation Committee (MTC) and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), our regional transportation and land use planning agencies, have released the first draft of Plan Bay Area 2050, a bold long-range vision that will guide the direction of future housing growth in the Bay Area for the next generation, and they need your input! NPH has been working closely with MTC and ABAG staff to ensure that the Plan includes bold, regional affordable housing strategies and policies that will advance the 3Ps equitably throughout the region, especially in high-resource areas that have fallen short on their affordable housing goals. Public input from the affordable housing community is critical to the success of Plan Bay Area 2050, especially as our region strives to advance racial justice, end homelessness, recover from COVID-19, ensure housing stability, and economic equity. Public comment will be accepted through August 10, 2020. Email your feedback to [email protected], or take the PBA survey here. You can also attend one of MTC and ABAG's virtual Plan Bay Area workshops to make your voice heard. For more information, contact our Policy Manager, Rodney Nickens at [email protected]. |

| | The National Low Income Housing Coalition recently released their "Out of Reach 2020" report which highlights that California counties account for 9 of the top 10 most expensive places to live in the nation. Bay Area counties in particular are heavily represented, seizing 6 of the 8 most expensive places on the list. “This report is a clarion call for the action we need to take,” NPH's Amie Fishman told The Mercury News, pointing to critical federal policies the HEROES Act and HR 2. "This Out of Reach report affirms what Bay Area families and workers already know and feel," Amie told KCBS when appearing on their radio station. "We know that the public health and economic crisis has exacerbated our housing situation and exposed deep racial disparities. We know it won't get better unless we move forward with big, bold solutions." For our future, this starts with safe, stable, affordable homes for everyone. More statistics form the report can be found here. |
