Friends, I hope you had a safe and healthy holiday with loved ones and friends.

As 2025 comes to a close, I wanted to share my perspective on what we were able to accomplish this year, and what we might expect to happen in 2026.

When Donald Trump and JD Vance took office in January, I held a deep and sincere hope that they would be successful for all Americans. As far too many people in our country struggle, I still hold on to that hope — for those who rely on our President to guide the way as best he can.

I also knew in January that part of doing my Constitutional duty as a United States Senator would be to fight against an Administration making reckless, dangerous, and often lawless decisions that impact the American people.

I sat down with my Senate staff and we made a list of every possible tool at my disposal for pushing back — and this year, we’ve used just about every one of them. And we’ve had some success. We passed legislation in the Senate to roll back Trump’s idiotic tariffs on Canadian and Brazilian goods. We finally repealed the 1991 and 2002 “zombie authorizations” for the Iraq War.

And we got Republicans on the record about where they stand — they made perfectly clear that they don’t support affordable health care for the American people, and we’ll remember that come November.

My mantra remains: Advance everywhere we can, defend everything we must. As we make our way through this challenging time, I will continue to use that as my North Star in advocating for the best interests of Virginians and all Americans.

No matter what you’re feeling as this year comes to a close — fear, anger, hope, anxiety, despair, determination — know that there are still many strong and committed leaders in Washington who are determined to fight for you, and to fight for the most vulnerable among us.

Next year, we have an opportunity to elect even more of those strong leaders — to take back the Senate, flip the House, and break the GOP trifecta of power here in Washington.

I believe we can do it. Virginia’s major 2025 victories proved that. When we organize, when we build grassroots power, and when we show up with real energy — we can win. But we can’t rest on our laurels after VA’s successes — we need to prepare for a massive blue wave around the country, starting now.

So as we close out the year, I’m humbly asking: Will you contribute whatever amount is meaningful to you to support our work to win big in 2026?

Whatever challenges or successes lie ahead for our country, the fact is that we will face them together, as one people. I’m proud to be facing it all with you, and I promise I’ll never stop fighting for a brighter future for our Commonwealth and country.

Wishing you and your loved ones a happy New Year,

Tim Kaine
