John, by now, you know the stakes of this race, but please give me a second to remind you: It’s the race that could determine control of the U.S. Senate majority, and my opponent and I couldn’t be more different. He’s an ex-big oil lobbyist; I’ve committed my life to serving NC. He will greenlight the far-right agenda, while I will stand up for our fundamental rights and democracy itself. But you might not know the why behind this campaign. North Carolina has always been my home. I got my start in public school classrooms — I graduated from UNC for college and law school. And the first time I ran for office, it was in Nash County, where I was born and raised. Every opportunity I’ve ever had has come my way because I’m lucky enough to be from North Carolina and to have people around me who offered me their help and support. I know that what’s true here is true in communities across the country, John. When people support one another, everyone is stronger for it. I want the next generation of America’s leaders to have the same opportunities I had. The same strong communities. The same chances to succeed and thrive. And I’m ready to fight for them. Let me put it another way: My opponent is running for Donald Trump (he said so himself). I am running for you.
