My journey to Congress began in tragedy, but I pushed forward with purpose. I’m Congresswoman Lucy McBath from Georgia, and Emerge helped me turn that purpose into leadership. Now, as we approach the year-end deadline, I’m asking you to help Emerge open that path for more women.

When my son, Jordan, was murdered in 2012, my life changed forever. I stepped away from a 30-year career with Delta and became an advocate. No parent should have to experience what I did, and our leaders in Washington were refusing to act.

When Congress still refused to confront gun violence after the Parkland school shooting, I realized something very clearly: If the people in power won’t stand up for our families, then it’s up to women like me to step forward and lead.

That path led me to run for Congress against an NRA-backed incumbent in Newt Gingrich’s former district. I became the first Black woman to hold that Congressional seat, winning by just one percent.

Since then, I’ve passed bipartisan legislation to lower healthcare costs, protect veterans, and strengthen our gun laws. None of that would have been possible without the training and support networks Emerge builds for women candidates.

That’s why I believe in Emerge.

Emerge is where women learn how to run, win, and serve with purpose. It’s where women find their voice, build their skills, and gain the confidence to step into leadership.

Today, 12 other Emerge alums serve with me in Congress, and they are some of the strongest fighters we have protecting our democracy. And next year, Emerge has the chance to double that number.
