Last week your efforts resulted in 469 calls to Governor Cuomo! You raised the visibility of the polluting North Brooklyn Pipeline project in solidarity with the community being impacted, and we appreciate your efforts!

Also last week, Alliance for a Green Economy, on behalf of the Renewable Heat Now campaign, filed a comment in the NYS Public Service Commission’s gas planning proceeding. We expressed support for beneficial electrification of the heating sector and called on the Commission to stop all gas expansion as soon as possible. We encourage you to check out the press release with powerful quotes from our allies! We will be contacting you to outline ways you can take action and participate in this proceeding in the coming weeks.

This week we are again requesting calls to Governor Cuomo.

As heatwaves sweep across the United States this month, New York State faces numerous proposals to build out fossil fuel infrastructure. In Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island, National Grid has proposed a plan to spend hundreds of millions of ratepayer dollars on dangerous new fracked gas pipelines, polluting compressor stations, and fracked gas storage facilities. However, Governor Cuomo has the power to stop these proposals and insist that National Grid select (and augment) the renewable energy "no infrastructure" option in their proposal.

The renewable energy "no infrastructure" options include:
•  reducing gas demand through energy efficiency, including weatherization;
•  getting customers off gas with efficient electric appliances such as induction stoves for cooking and heat pumps for building and hot water heating (i.e. beneficial electrification);
•  using timers on thermostats and other means of cutting peak demand (i.e. demand response).

We are asking everyone to call Governor Cuomo this week at 877-235-6537 with the following message:

Governor Cuomo, please stand up to the corporate utilities and defend New York's climate law! Say NO to National Grid’s plans for more fossil fuels. And say YES to the “no infrastructure” renewable options!

Please share this Call Cuomo request and the Facebook event throughout your networks and your other social media platforms this week. Please help us get even more calls to Governor Cuomo this week! We must continue to draw the Governor's attention to the "no infrastructure" renewable options.

We send our love and solidarity to you during these trying times, and we thank you for your work in the climate fight.
