I was honored to take part in Christmas in the Wards this weekend, where the true spirit of the season shines brightest. What began nearly 30 years ago as a small grassroots effort has grown into one of Chicago’s most meaningful celebrations of generosity and community.

Cook County shows its best side when we take care of one another, and this year has reinforced just how much that community strength matters. We are weathering challenging times by standing together - neighbors, community groups, and families looking out for one another.

That spirit was on display through Christmas in the Wards, a nearly 30-year community tradition focused on supporting Chicagoland families.

Christmas in the Ward's Mission is All Year Long

As a teacher, I was especially glad to present two students with new laptops, practical tools that will support their education and help them stay connected to opportunities at school and beyond.

While the event takes place during the holidays, the work doesn’t stop in December. Over the past year, Christmas in the Wards has supported families through:

  • Easter celebrations 🐣
  • Back-to-School readiness 🎒
  • Thanksgiving meals 🦃
  • Shopping with the Mayor 🛍️

Thanks to strong partnerships with community organizations and corporate sponsors, hundreds of families received support when they needed it - not just during the holidays, but throughout the year.

That kind of consistency is what makes a real difference, and I’m grateful to everyone who helps make it possible.

Carrying this commitment into the new year:

We hope you’ll join us at our upcoming fundraiser to help continue our work across Cook County.
