The interesting thing about that race though is that it almost could've been an exception to 2025’s rule: a catastrophic Democratic defeat amidst a sea of national Democratic victories.
Court elections are not sexy. They are low turnout affairs. The average voter has no idea who their state supreme court justices are or what is at stake if MAGA seizes their court.
Three months prior to this past November’s PA court election, polls showed Democrats losing this critical swing state court by a massive margin. Losing it would've meant Democrats never winning an election in PA again.
With little attention on the race and little support from the national level, it fell upon Defend our Courts to ring the alarm about the looming disaster. We sent out a distress beacon to Democrats across the nation and our call was heeded. We were able to spend millions on educating PA voters about the importance of their state Supreme Court and when the dust had settled we blew MAGA out of the water and put the fear of god into them.
More races like this are coming down the pike. Court races are so obscure, low turnout, and difficult for voters to wrap their heads around, that regardless of a blue wave forming in 2026 we cannot afford to be complacent. MAGA is motivated and will show no mercy, if we don’t fight to defend these courts we will lose them.
