Reflecting on 2025, Preparing for 2026

Dear Educators,

As you head into a well-deserved winter break, I want to thank you and to reflect on the remarkable momentum we built together in 2025 at the National Constitution Center. Every day, in classrooms across the country, you shape how students encounter the Constitution and what it means to be a citizen in a constitutional democracy. We deeply appreciate your partnership as we look ahead to a pivotal moment in our nation’s history: America’s 250th anniversary in 2026.

  • Supporting the Middle School Classroom

This year marked an important evolution in our work as we expanded our focus to middle school learners, meeting students at a critical moment in their civic development, when curiosity is high and habits of constitutional thinking begin to take shape. In August, we launched the middle school version of our Constitution 101 Curriculum designed to lay the foundation for deeper civic learning, and support meaningful classroom discussion. Your enthusiasm and engagement affirmed the importance of reaching students earlier in their civic journeys, and together we are building learning experiences that will shape how they encounter the Constitution for years to come.

  • Expanding Opportunities for Teachers Nationwide

In 2025, we also worked to broaden access to high-quality professional learning for educators nationwide. We expanded our Summer Educator Institutes and Weekend Workshops at the Center in Philadelphia, increased in-person offerings in states and localities across the country, introduced new virtual learning opportunities, and launched the Civic Education for Rural and Remote Communities Fellowship. Together, these efforts were designed to make it easier for you to bring trusted, rigorous constitutional education into your classroom, while also helping us reach more educators and students, including those in rural, remote, and underserved communities.

  • More Student Programs That Spark Curiosity

We were thrilled this year to launch Civic Stories, a new addition to our suite of virtual student programs. The response has been extraordinary: in 2025 alone, Civic Stories reached more than 2,700 students across 90-plus sessions. We are continuing to expand access to this program, along with our hallmark Scholar Exchanges, which are expected to engage a record high 30,000+ students this year. Looking ahead, we are excited to introduce Decoding the Document, a new program centered on primary sources designed to strengthen constitutional thinking by helping students learn how to contextualize historical documents, read them closely, and evaluate perspective.. Be on the lookout for more details soon.

For our team, 2026 marks a year of momentum as we expand our support for you and your students and prepare for America’s 250th anniversary. Here’s a look at what’s ahead.

  • New Resources on Civic Virtue: In February 2026, we will release an adult course on civic virtue in partnership with Arizona State University, What the Founders Meant by “Happiness”: A Journey Through Virtue and Character. We will also begin developing middle school and high school adaptations, slated for release during the 2026–2027 academic year. These courses will be shaped through two concurrent teacher fellowships, ensuring educator and student voices are at the center of the course design process.

  • More Ways to Engage Families: In 2026, the NCC will debut new hands-on activities such as an America-250 inspired edition of Trivial Pursuit and Civic Quest, an activity-based box that invites families to engage with America’s history and founding documents together at home.

  • Sharing Your Civic Spark: Do you remember the moment when you first felt inspired to be a part of our nation’s story? Is there a specific memory that ignited your passion for history and civics? I shared mine with The Hill in November and with our NCC community on social media. Reply to this email and share your “civic spark” with us.

Your commitment to civic learning inspires our entire education team, and we are deeply grateful for the care, curiosity, and dedication you bring to helping young people see themselves as part of the American story, especially as we look ahead to the nation’s 250th anniversary.

We hope the holiday season offers moments of rest and reflection, and we look forward to continuing this important work together in the year ahead.

With gratitude,

Julie Silverbrook

Vice President of Civic Education
