Hi, John,
As a Sunriser, you’re familiar with our theory of change [[link removed]] . Fostering relationships with those around us and welcoming people into our movement is an important way we build power. And mobilizing that people power to vote out corrupt officials and vote in Green New Deal champions at all levels of government is another important step to positioning us as a force to be reckoned with.

This summer, thousands of us have been feeding two birds with one scone by directing our energy into phone banks. [[link removed]] Making phone calls to connect with communities all over the country and giving them updates about candidates in upcoming elections has been super effective in strengthening our bond as a Sunrise community and building power for candidates who share our vision of the future. Plus, with so many officials still dropping the ball on COVID-19, it’s one of the safest ways to organize right now.

There are tons of phone bank shifts open throughout the week, and each of them starts off with a quick, easy training to help anyone new get started. Won’t you join us in transforming Congress into a body that actually works for the people? [[link removed]]

These are some of the important races we’re supporting right now:

Ilhan Omar: Did you hear? Sunrise has officially endorsed Rep. Omar. She’s been a powerhouse in Congress since being elected in 2018. In her first year, she successfully passed 16 bills and amendments through the House of Representatives. Ilhan shares our values, including securing environmental justice, healthcare for all, a just immigration system, and so much more. Sign up to phonebank for Ilhan here. [[link removed]]

Cori Bush: Another of our latest endorsements, Cori Bush is everything MO-01 needs. As a lifelong St. Louisan, she understands the struggles of the community—because she’s lived them. Cori is a nurse, pastor, single mom, and Ferguson-made activist who believes in police accountability, prison reform, healthcare and education for all, and—of course—a Green New Deal. Sign up to phonebank for Cori here. [[link removed]]

Rashida Tlaib: Since being elected in 2018, Rashida's been a leading voice for progressive legislation such as the Green New Deal and Medicare For All. She has fought for economic and housing justice, for the right to clean air and water, and civil rights. Now, she's running for reelection and keeping up the fight for working people in Michigan's 13th against corporate interests. Sign up to phonebank for Rashida here. [[link removed]]

Alex Morse: The youngest and first openly gay mayor in the history of the city of Holyoke, MA, Alex has lead the city’s economic transformation toward renewable energy to meet the challenge of climate change. He believes in investing in people, with initiatives like affordable housing, community policing, universal healthcare, funding education, and more. Sign up to phonebank for Alex here. Ed Markey: Senator Markey has been a champion in the fight against climate change and the pursuit of clean energy. He believes health care is a right, not a privilege. He’s defended the dignity and humanity of the LGBTQ+ community here and abroad. And he wants to continue being a strong ally in the fight for justice for our communities across the nation. Sign up to phonebank for Ed here. [[link removed]]

Securing seats for these champions will give us a huge advantage when pushing for policies that will fight climate change, combat racial injustice, and transform our economy into one of care, not extraction.

Together, we’ve celebrated so many wins this summer—let’s push for a few more.

See you on the phones,

Sophia
