Friend,
It’s not every day you see the nation’s top media regulator acting like a presidential fixer — but that’s what we’ve witnessed from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr this year.
He pressured Disney/ABC to pull the plug on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, amplified Trump’s call to cancel Late Night with Seth Myers, threatened newsroom independence and opened the door to even more media consolidation that could flood the airwaves with propaganda.
Free Press has refused to let that slide. We’ve called out his “Federal Censorship Commission” antics, filed challenges to his unlawful plan to blow up TV-ownership limits and helped organize tens of thousands of calls to ABC affiliates around the country when Kimmel was yanked off the air.
If Carr is hoping people won’t notice how he’s abusing his power, we have some bad news for him: We’re still here.
Doing this kind of work takes real resources. We’ve set a $50,000 year-end goal, and right now a generous donor is doubling every tax-deductible gift through Dec. 31. Will you make your first tax-deductible gift today while every dollar is doubled? Your gift will help us hold Carr and the FCC accountable.

Here’s what’s at stake in 2026: Carr and his allies in broadcasting want to wipe out media-ownership rules so a handful of conglomerates can control what the rest of us see, hear and know.
That means fewer truly local newsrooms, more cookie-cutter coverage and more pressure on journalists who dare to challenge those in power.
Free Press is one of the few groups that’s ready and willing to challenge these authoritarians on every front. With sufficient support, we can continue to oppose unlawful rulemakings, mobilize people to fight harmful mergers in their own communities and defend the First Amendment when government officials attempt to punish their critics.
Will you make your first donation to Free Press today? A generous donor will DOUBLE your gift so we can keep pushing back against censorship and consolidation.
With gratitude,
Heather Franklin

P.S. Free Press doesn’t take a cent from business, government or political parties — which means we can challenge Carr, broadcasters and tech giants without any strings attached. Every dollar you give right now will go twice as far toward our $50,000 goal to hold the FCC accountable, defend free speech and protect local news. Will you donate today? [[link removed]
