Dear Fellow Young Democrat,
July has been a month for the books. As an organization, we officially named new leaders and had our annual convention. As a community, we have seen mesmerizing levels of attention paid to the systemic injustice that Black Americans face, and we lost two civil rights icons in the same day. Now is a moment for change and we believe in each person's individual ability to affect change.
The life, leadership, and legacy of John Lewis can never be forgotten. His devotion to our country is not only measurable in bills passed but the blood, sweat, and tears he devoted to the Civil Rights Movement. Our country as a whole is mourning after his passing and the good trouble that he got into on behalf of this country can never be repaid.
Senior Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Rev. Raphael Warnock reflected on John Lewis' passing that, "the irony of this moment, really, is that John Lewis is the patron saint of voting rights, but his home state of Georgia is ground zero for voter suppression."
In honor of his legacy we are calling on our elected leaders in Washington D.C., those that worked side-by-side with Congressman John Lewis, to enact HR4 as the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
The bill is currently in the Senate. You can locate your Senator's contact information at:

Are you a Young Democrat running for office in Indiana? Let us know what you're running for and we will follow up about the endorsement process!
Redistricting is next year, so if we want to end Republican gerrymandering, we must elect just ONE MORE State Representative candidate to break the Republican's Supermajority. A Supermajority for Republicans mean they can convene meetings of the Legislature WITHOUT DEMOCRATS PRESENT. Republicans can draw districts and choose their voters without a single word on the matter coming from Democrats. That's wrong, and Young Democrats around the state are stepping up and leading the way in some of the most competitive races across Indiana.
