Hi John - The coronavirus pandemic is creating even more challenges for children living in conflict-affected countries like Yemen. Save the Children staff in Yemen are seeing an alarming drop in the number of children accessing health services as already limited resources are diverted to handle COVID-19. Now thousands of children are left without the medical attention they need to survive. This comes at a time when millions of Yemenis are stuck in a deadly combination of violence, disease and hunger. There is growing bipartisan support in Congress to provide more humanitarian assistance funding in the next coronavirus relief package. But they will only act if enough people demand it. Send a message to your members of Congress today – provide robust funding for foreign assistance to help save the lives of children in Yemen and other conflict-affected countries around the world! The stories we are hearing from Yemen are truly heartbreaking. Mahmud*, an 11-year old boy, received a head injury from an airstrike on his house. He was taken on a 4-hour drive by his family to the hospital. He was able to receive treatment for 2 days but died after the hospital became overwhelmed by COVID-19 patients and ran out of resources to care from him. Five years of war had already pushed the health sector in Yemen to the brink. Just half of the health care facilities in the country were operating before the pandemic. Without additional funding, thousands of children may die in the coming months from preventable diseases and hunger. John, we can’t let this happen. Please urge your members of Congress to provide significant levels of humanitarian assistance in the next coronavirus relief package. Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
