John, for many of us, the holiday season is a time for gathering with loved ones, being grateful for our community, and, frankly, finding some time to relax.

But for far too many, the joy is overshadowed by the reality that far too many of our friends and neighbors are struggling to put food on the table day in and day out.

The fact is that 1.1 million college students depend on SNAP benefits to help cover the costs of food. Need to find a food bank?

FIND YOUR LOCAL FOODBANK

Thanks to Trump and the Republicans’ "Big Beautiful Bill", federal funding for SNAP benefits will be cut, affecting millions of people who are projected to be kicked out of the nation’s largest anti-hunger program.

During the government shutdown, when food assistance funding was cut off, we saw just how many people depend on those benefits. Food banks and pantries across the country saw a sharp increase in demand — some food banks saw an upwards 1800% increase in demand.

There is no doubt that in the coming months, as prices remain high, incomes stay flat, and benefits are cut, more people will turn to food banks to put food on the table.

Whether or not we rely on SNAP benefits, hunger affects all of us — it impedes many in our communities from achieving their full potential. If you need help, click here to find your local food bank.

P.S. Our local food banks and pantries will need our support. If you can afford it, you can donate to help feed our neighbors.
