After the passing of Congressman John Lewis, tributes flowed from both sides of the aisle to honor the civil rights hero.
Mitch McConnell called Lewis “a pioneering civil rights leader who put his life on the line to fight racism, promote equal rights, and bring our nation into greater alignment with its founding principles.”
Yet, despite this high praise, McConnell is actively destroying Lewis’ life mission -- the fight for equal voting rights. Last year, Lewis and House Democrats passed the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019, which would restore the Voting Rights Act of 1965 banning racial discrimination that was struck down by the Supreme Court in 2013.
That bill has been sitting on Mitch McConnell’s desk for over 200 days.
Lewis was severely beaten in Selma, Alabama in 1965 as he fought for equal voting rights -- it’s a shame that Mitch McConnell is working to overturn what Lewis fought for.
