“I’m dying for something to eat.” Andrew and countless people are faced with a grim reality this season.

‼️Friend: What should be a hopeful and celebratory time of the year is instead marked by fear — as cruel cuts to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are forcing many families to scramble to survive this winter and beyond. ‼️

When you make a gift to the Southern Poverty Law Center right now, you can double your impact on the communities who need us the most and help push back against draconian policies that will leave millions hungry if they go unchallenged. ([link removed])

Without SNAP benefits, “I would starve,” 62-year-old retiree Andrew Sanders recounted. “I’ve ran out of tears. I can’t cry anymore. I’m just trying to survive.”

There are days when he walks miles for a hot meal from a soup kitchen. He walks in the summer months in the extreme Alabama heat. And he walks in the winter, when cold, dry air draws lines that form cracks on his exposed skin.

His hunger is constant throughout. “It hurts like hell,” he said. “I’m dying for something to eat.”

Surviving at an abysmal $23 a month in SNAP benefits, Andrew is already on the brink —and he is just one of 42 million people at risk of losing these lifesaving benefits this season as a result of Trump’s “Big Ugly Budget Bill” passed earlier this year.

Sanders is one of more than 752,000 Alabama residents who receive money to buy food each month through SNAP.

Stories like Andrew’s are difficult to hear, but they remind us why we need your support now.

With the power of public policy, legal expertise, public education, and organizing, we are working to protect people like Andrew, who should never go hungry or be forced to choose between a meal and paying for other basic needs in the wealthiest country in the world.

Please don’t wait. Every dollar counts right now. ([link removed])

Our track record of victories since 1971 is a testament to what is possible when we work together to overcome the hate embedded in the fabric of our society and build a future where all can thrive.

But these wins weren’t possible without the generosity and compassion of people like you who believe in the potential of this country. That’s why we need you to stand with us once more.

When you make a contribution by December 31, your gift will be matched 2x — giving us the fuel to protect people like Andrew, defend the millions of American families who deserve to live with dignity, and hold public institutions accountable in 2026 and beyond.

Friend, help us continue the movement for justice. Give today. >> ([link removed])
