Citizens for Ethics & Responsibility in Washington

Hey John,

I hope you’ve been enjoying your holidays. Sorry to email during the holiday rush — I know we all have a lot going on. But I promise I wouldn’t be reaching out if it wasn’t important.

The last few weeks of the year are crucial for nonprofits like CREW because this is when we lay the groundwork for the year ahead.

If 2026 is anything like this year, John, well, we’re going to have some tough fights ahead of us. (If you already know you’re with CREW in this work, you can chip in here to help us prepare for those fights.)

Just 20 days into 2025, Donald Trump issued sweeping pardons and commutations for January 6 rioters. He set the tone for his second term in office: lawlessness, political favoritism, constitutional violations — a government tilted toward the wealthy, the connected and the people willing to serve his personal agenda.

CREW fought back right away. We sued DOGE for operating unchecked at the direction of an unelected billionaire while running roughshod over the federal government.

And John, that was just on day one.

Over the year, we’ve taken action at every turn to stop the Trump administration’s attacks on our democracy and to hold our government accountable to the public.

We demanded answers under the Freedom of Information Act after President Trump sent the California National Guard and federal troops into Los Angeles. We took the Office of Management and Budget and its director, Russell Vought, to court for scrapping a legally required public website that showed how OMB spends taxpayer dollars, or doesn’t — and we won. We sued the Department of Homeland Security for violating federal record-keeping laws by failing to preserve key text messages. And we filed a class-action lawsuit against the Trump administration over its unlawful creation of “National Data Banks” that pooled sensitive personal information across federal agencies, potentially leading to the removal of eligible voters from the voter rolls.

In 2025, we accomplished all that and so much more — all because of supporters like you.

John, it’s because of your support that we remain hopeful and can continue to take on even the toughest battles. Your commitment is what allows us to hold powerful people accountable, uncover the truth and keep pushing for the transparency our democracy deserves.

We already know that there are tough fights ahead in 2026 — fights that we can’t take on without your support.

That’s why I’m asking for your support today, John. If you donate today, your donation will be matched, up to $100,000, to help power our work in the year to come.

This is an early opportunity to make your end-of-year contribution and maximize your support for CREW.

Your donation will be matched 2X to help us continue holding our government accountable and fighting to protect our democracy at every turn. Please, don’t miss out on this chance to double your impact by making an early, end-of-year donation to support CREW →

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your tax deductible donation will go through immediately to ActBlue Charities Inc. and be disbursed to CREW within 30 days:
