** Lawmakers request expedited hearing on Pendley's nomination to lead BLM

A group of western U.S. Senators is urging the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee to hold a hearing ([link removed]) as soon as possible to consider the nomination of William Perry Pendley to lead the Bureau of Land Management. Pendley has previously called for selling all federally owned land, which includes land managed by the agency he is now nominated to lead.

His nomination for the position has been widely criticized, including by Montana Senator Jon Tester ([link removed]) who spearheaded the letter to the committee calling for an expedited hearing. Senator Tester said ([link removed]) , "He has no business overseeing public lands he has spent his career working to undermine. While I strongly oppose this nomination, I am pushing for the process to move as quickly as possible so that William Perry Pendley can be held accountable to the American public.”
