Hello John, and Yáʼátʼééh Késhmish! On behalf of Phefelia and our family I want to wish you a Merry Christmas and a blessed holiday season. No matter how you celebrate, I hope you’ll have time to rest and enjoy the company of relatives and friends. It’s a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with our elders and those who live far away, and I look forward every year to seeing those who travel across the Navajo Nation to be present for the holidays. To our warriors who are serving overseas, we wish you peace and strength as you keep our nation safe.
As a man of faith, today is an especially important holiday for my family — and this season gives us a time to reflect on how we can be better stewards of our neighbors and communities. Here in rural Arizona, we pride ourselves on being independent and self-sufficient, but we also look out for our neighbors and community members who need a hand up.
These are challenging times for many folks, and it’s important that we always remember those who are struggling in the face of hunger, addiction, or any other adversity this time of year. We pray for these souls, and remember the example of empathy and generosity set by the man whose birthday we celebrate today.
May you have a peaceful and joyous holiday season. I feel so blessed to have you by my side as we build this movement for a brighter future for rural Arizona.
Ahéhee' and thank you,
Jonathan Nez
