Dear John,

The disruption to markets, governance, and everyday life in the last several months has presented a spate of challenges to the international freedom movement. Our shared mission remains critical, and that’s why I’m excited to share with you the important work that a dozen Atlas Network partners are doing to lead the post-COVID-19 economic and freedom recovery in this
latest issue of Freedom’s Champion.
From providing a playbook of ready-made policies for American cities to jump-start local economies to working to liberalize food trade in Indonesia, Atlas Network partners are leading efforts to leverage the crisis into a classical liberal "moment," as Matt Warner and Tom Palmer recently alluded to in their commentary for Foreign Policy.

As adherents of big government have predictably argued that the COVID-19 crisis calls for more government—not less—I encourage you to read “Wartime Hayekianism” by Johan Norberg, who called for the exact opposite in his special remarks at the Europe Liberty Forum Online in May:
"Personally, I think this crisis is the strongest possible argument for our ideas. We have just seen a real-life preview of a de-globalised, closed world—it’s like some sort of nightmarish combination of Greta Thunberg and Matteo Salvini. We have no travel, no mobility, no trade, no offshoring, no 'capitalist exploitation'…and you know what, this world is not at all as nice as it looked in the online ads! We have shut down the world for just two months, and the result is already in: global depression, mass unemployment, poverty, and hunger. It is a preview of a horror movie, and I for one, I do not want to watch this movie, this horror movie, permanently..."

This is only a sampling of the quarterly issue of Freedom's Champion, which you can view here. If you have great work which merits inclusion in the next issue, please respond to this email!

Best,
