Stories to Inspire

Hi John,
After two weeks of incarceration, Zoe was released from jail this morning under California’s “half-time” rule. She will serve the remainder of her sentence under strict house arrest, which is set to begin in January.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who wrote letters, signed the Free Zoe petition, showed up to court, shared social media posts, and stood with her during this time. That collective care mattered - it reminded Zoe, and the systems around her, that she was not alone and that a movement was paying attention. Together, we kept Zoe as safe and supported as possible in jail.
As we have seen time and again, law enforcement is targeting the wrong people by prosecuting animal rescuers. *Zoe’s trial, conviction, and sentencing were intended to deter and suppress animal rescue and activism. But it only fueled it.*
Across the world, we honored Zoe’s incarceration with action, *rescuing animals every single day she spent behind bars*. Two ( [link removed] ) quails ( [link removed] ) , four ( [link removed] ) groups ( [link removed] ) of ( [link removed] ) chickens ( [link removed] ) , and a rabbit ( [link removed] ) from slaughterhouses, mice ( [link removed] ) from a laboratory, injured raccoons ( [link removed] ) , a fish ( [link removed] ) and a rat ( [link removed] ) from a ‘pet’ store, rabbits ( [link removed] ) from a hoarding situation, baby chicks ( [link removed] ) from a feed store, and turkeys ( [link removed] ) from a factory farm. *14 rescues, totaling 163 individuals, in 14 days.

While some of these actions were modest in scale, they all carry profound meaning, and together, they reflect a core aspect of our strategy: empowering people to act for animals, even - and especially - in the face of risk.
Your generosity makes this possible. It sustains the activists, infrastructure, and care systems that turn courage into real, life-saving impact. *By* *making a donation to our end-of-year fundraiser* ( [link removed] ) *, you allow us to continue protecting activists like Zoe, rescuing animals, and sharing their stories in the year ahead.* All donations are being doubled up to $100,000 and we’re just over 70% of the way to our goal, so please consider supporting today ( [link removed] ).
Zoe is on her way home, eager to shower and rest and have some basic freedoms that so many of us take for granted. We'll hear more from her in the coming days, but I know this experience has only strengthened her resolve. I feel the same, and I hope you do, too.
In solidarity,
Almira
