Friends,
During this season of joy, gratitude, and generosity, please keep the
people of Sudan in your hearts.
Everyday life for millions of Sudanese today is the stuff of nightmares.
Last month, the capital of North Darfur, El Fasher, fell after 500 days of
siege. People who had already been surviving on animal hides, wild plants,
and livestock feed now must grapple with an even more desperate fight for
their lives amid reports of killings, abductions, and mass displacement.
Thanks to Mercy Corps supporters like you, our
teams and partners are racing to meet their critical needs and support
long-term recovery across 18 states in Sudan.
Most of our staff in Sudan are displaced from their homes and working from
temporary shelters. Still, we are providing cash and voucher assistance to
displaced families, helping farmers increase food production, and
supporting local markets to keep essential goods moving. And we’re
partnering with local responders through the Cash Consortium of Sudan to
deliver lifesaving aid and strengthen community resilience.

urgent relief to people in crisis zones like Sudan, Gaza, Ukraine, and
beyond — and today it will go TWICE as far thanks to our Matching Gift
Challenge.
Keep reading to learn more about the ways the ongoing conflict in Sudan is
affecting families — and how we’re responding.

The fierce fighting that began on April 15, 2023, has compounded the
crisis across the country. According to the United Nations, nearly 13
million people have fled their homes in search of safety, and 8.6 million
people have been displaced inside the country since the fighting
escalated.
Camps for internally displaced people have become the epicenter of the
crisis. In Greater Darfur, Greater Kordofan, and Khartoum, people are
trapped in overcrowded conditions with dwindling access to food, clean
water, medical care, and safe shelter.
As malnutrition soars, the health system fails, and sanitation remains
poor, disease outbreaks are spreading. And with over 70% of hospitals out
of service, millions are cut off from basic medical care.
The war has devastated agriculture, which is crucial to Sudan's economy
and the main support for rural families. Violence, insecurity, and
landmines have forced farmers to abandon their fields — and the war’s
economic shock will devastate an entire generation.
Don’t wait to send your support for families living on the edge of
survival in Sudan and other crisis zones across the globe. [ [link removed] ]Donate to

"We must not look away from the horrors unfolding in El Fasher and
across Sudan. Silence only fuels the suffering and allows it to
continue. This is the moment for the world to act."
— Melaku Yirga, Mercy Corps Vice President, African Region
For over 20 years, Mercy Corps has worked in Sudan to support hundreds of
thousands of Sudanese, displaced households, and refugees from nearby
countries. That includes:
Delivering emergency assistance, like cash and voucher support so
displaced families can buy essentials such as food, water, and hygiene
supplies.
Supporting food security and resilience by helping smallholder farmers
access quality seeds and tools to restore food production.
Preventing malnutrition by supporting screening, providing treatment,
and educating families to keep them healhy.
Strengthening markets and livelihoods by helping small businesses get
back on their feet and supporting communities to rebuild local
destroyed by conflict.
Every dollar you give helps make this kind of life-changing impact for
people facing the most urgent challenges of our time. [ [link removed] ]Please, make your
tax-deductible year-end gift right now to send TWICE the lifesaving
