Governor Lamont, Attorney General Tong and their herd of green energy fanatics have engaged in a process of destroying local government under the guise of making housing more affordable under HB8002.

Thanks to a Progressive Democrat Governor and the Democrat Supermajority at the Statehouse, they have rammed this possibly unconstitutional bill through the State Legislature.

But if they were truly interested in affordable housing and economic growth the last thing they should be supporting is unaffordable electric rates. If you look at the prices of your electric bill and you aren’t shocked - LOOK AGAIN.

Connecticut’s electric rates that are among the highest in the nation. Windmills will only increase those rates if we are forced to use offshore wind generated electricity.

Affordability is on the agenda (especially in winter months) and there is a sharp demand for affordable electricity for power data centers, AI, quantum computing and bitcoin mining. These important growth industries also need water to cool the heat they generate and cheap and require abundant electricity to power them.

Connecticut has the water, but Governor Lamont is making sure that we don’t have the cheap electricity to power them and there are others on the Federal Level like Sen. Blumenthal that claim that this offshore wind from Revolution Wind will bring costs down.

Under the Lamont and Tong Regime, Connecticut will NEVER be able to attract these industries to locate here.

More Pain at the Plug

The first column on your bill is “Supply”. This is the cost paid to Eversource to generate the electricity and it is 9.748 cents per KWH. At that price Eversource is making a profit on selling the customer electricity. Millstone, our nuclear power plant supplies electricity at 4.999 cents per KWH and that is a fixed price for the next 20 years. Yet, all the Democrat legislators blame Millstone for our high electricity costs. Without Millstone our electricity would be less green and more expensive.

Building new nuclear power plants are expensive, but they are coming down with new technology and a modernized regulatory framework. Once operational, nuclear plants can now produce electricity at a lower cost than fossil fuels at 2-4 cents per KWH.

Offshore Platform Wind generated electricity is an Economic Disaster.

According to the November, 2024 report of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the cost of Offshore Platform Generated Electricity is 18.1 cents per KWH or 13 cents more per KWH than Millstone. Land Based Wind Generated Electricity costs are 4.2 cents per KWH. We in Connecticut have made the wrong choice, for wind based generation of electricity. This does not include any potential damage and repairs that a massive hurricane or nor-easter could cause.

President Trump was right to shut this down. Based on the latest Eversource bill, the average cost per KWH with all the components of the bill hovered around 26.74 cents per kwh. If 25% of our electricity came from offshore wind without a mark up by Eversource our electricity bill would increase by 12.4% and with a mark up it could be as high as 20%.

NYC is pushing for full green buildings and the removal of any heat from fossil fuels in their latest laws that require all HVAC and hot water by electricity. Combining that retrofit the wind generated electricity surcharge, most New Yorkers could have monthly energy costs that exceed monthly mortgage payments.

Offshore wind and other green energy policies of the progressive left will destroy the economy of Connecticut. There are rational green energy policies that can stimulate economic growth, keep our carbon footprint down, and bring prosperity to Connecticut. One of those is increased nuclear.

The more you know about Offshore Wind Generated Electricity the less you want it. There is a reason that Offshore Wind has been suspended for national security reasons and many others as these projects do not make CT more affordable.

Attorney General Tong should drop his lawsuit and let us cut our losses. The real green energy revolution is Nuclear.
