THIS DAY IN HISTORY
Christmas Faith from the Battlefield
At WallBuilders, we celebrate Christmas not merely as a holiday, but as the sacred anniversary of the moment when the eternal Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14<[link removed]>). This Christmas, as we celebrate the Prince of Peace, we also reflect on the timeless Christian witness that has marked our nation's history, even in its most trying hours.

During the brutal winter of 1944, as Allied forces faced the ferocious German counteroffensive in the Battle of the Bulge, General George S. Patton turned to prayer<[link removed]> amid relentless rains and fog that grounded planes and stalled troops.
He urged the entire Third Army to beseech God for clear skies and distributed this prayer:

Almighty and most merciful Father, we humbly beseech Thee, of Thy great goodness, to restrain these immoderate rains...Grant us fair weather for Battle. Graciously hearken to us as soldiers who call upon Thee that, armed with Thy power, we may advance from victory to victory, and crush the oppression and wickedness of our enemies and establish Thy justice among men and nations.
Miraculously, the weather broke, paving the way for triumph. In that desperate hour, prayer became their shield, proving—as Scripture assures us in Matthew 18:19<[link removed]>—that where two or three gather in His name, God moves.

And during the Civil War's fratricidal strife, a simple Christmas card<[link removed]> from a Union quartermaster recalled the Lord's Prayer. Penned in the shadow of battle, it whispered of forgiveness, daily bread, and eternal glory.
These stories are not mere relics of the past but living invitations to deeper faith. As we gather with family, let us pray as they did: for our families, our nation, and the world. May Christ's light dispel every shadow, His peace mend every fracture, and His joy overflow.

From the WallBuilders family to yours: Merry Christmas! May God bless you abundantly in the year ahead.
