John,
However you’re marking this season — Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, the
winter solstice, or another tradition meaningful to you — or even if
you’re just taking a breath at the end of a long year, I hope you’re
finding moments of warmth, care, and connection.
I wanted to reach out today, not with an ask or a warning, but with a
promise.
As we head into a new year, I’m thinking a lot about what it means to be
ready. Ready for the fights we know are coming. Ready to defend our
communities. Ready to build something better — together.
You’ve heard me say it before, and I mean it: we stay ready so we don’t
have to get ready. That’s how we win.
Next year is going to matter. It’s going to demand courage, clarity, and a
renewed commitment to justice. And I want you to know that I’m already in
fighting trim — not just for the upcoming elections, but for the everyday
work of standing up for people who are too often pushed to the margins.
I’m ready to fight for dignity and safety.
Ready to fight for economic justice and real democracy.
Ready to fight back against hate, corruption, and corporate greed —
wherever they show up.
And just as importantly, I’m ready to have your back.
I believe deeply that the next year can be a turning point. Not because
things will suddenly get easy, but because we are building the power,
discipline, and solidarity it takes to get this country back on the right
track.
So as this year comes to a close, I hope you’ll take a breath. Hold your
people close. Rest if you can. And then — when you’re ready — lace back up
with me.
We’re going into this next chapter clear-eyed, grounded, and prepared. And
together, we’re going to fight for the future we have always known we
deserve.
With gratitude and love,
— Summer
