For more than 50 years, Trust for Public Land has partnered with communities to safeguard our shared public lands where they’re needed most. Today, we remain focused on expanding access to the outdoors, protecting the places that shape our shared history, and ensuring every person—regardless of zip code—can experience the transformative power of nature.
But our public lands are facing challenges unlike any we’ve ever seen. Rapid federal policy shifts are stripping land of federal protections, while funding cuts, mass layoffs and firings are putting countless critical conservation and community projects at risk. Over 100 active projects are currently affected by changes in federal policy, with an estimated 23 million acres of vital forest at risk of being permanently lost by 2050 if we don't act now.
