“I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.” — Isaiah 42:6-7

Dear John,

Hundreds of years before the Savior came, God promised it.

Through Jesus, God would call people to Himself — and He would use them to be His light to the nations.

But how does the light shine to the nations?

Through you and me. It shines as Christians go everywhere. As we go to all the nations, including the toughest places, we have the opportunity to share the light of Jesus with those who have never heard about Him.

As we go, we also serve. We love the brokenhearted. We feed the hungry. We provide water to those who are thirsty. We bring healing to the sick, and we visit the prisoners. This is how the light shines.

Remember the song many of us sang as children: “This little light of mine. I’m gonna let it shine!” It might not be a traditional Christmas song, but the message certainly applies.

This Christmas, you and I can shine the light. We can share it with those closest to us. And we can shine the light of Jesus for those who are still far away.

I pray you have a wonderful Christmas filled with love, light and hope. Many blessings to you and your loved ones!

Serving together,
