JobKeeper is the largest economic lifeline in Australia’s history.
Dear
Friend,
JobKeeper is the largest economic lifeline in Australia’s history.
It has been crucial in supporting around 960,000 businesses and 3.5 million workers.
It has helped to maintain links between employers and workers, support business cash flow, and provide income support during this pandemic.
The current flat fortnightly payment of $1,500 for eligible employees was a deliberate decision. It meant money could be distributed quickly using existing systems.
This swift response was the key to saving businesses and livelihoods.
As a Government, we don’t set and forget. We will respond to circumstances – and make changes – as needed.
Yesterday, the Government announced we will extend JobKeeper beyond September for an additional six months, with some modifications.
For the next stage of JobKeeper, there will be a two-tiered payment, which will be tapered:
* For the December quarter, payments will be $1,200 per fortnight per employee, or $750 per fortnight for workers who were employed for less than 20 hours a week.
* For the March quarter, payments will be $1,000 per fortnight per employee, or $650 per fortnight for workers who were employed for less than 20 hours a week.
Employers will be required to reassess their eligibility and show they have suffered an ongoing significant decline in turnover.
The Government is also extending the Coronavirus Supplement for those on income support to 31 December 2020, at a rate of $250 per fortnight. We will also be reintroducing a range of means testing arrangements.
As we support each other through this crisis, the Government will have Australians’ backs.
