With the holidays in full swing and New Year's around the corner, the Hunger Free America annual MLK Serve-A-Thon ([link removed]) is now just weeks away!

For over 20 years, we've honored Dr. King's legacy of justice and equity by coordinating service and action.

This year, the MLK Serve-A-Thon includes in-person and remote service activities with our nonprofit partners and AmeriCorps VISTA sites across the country from 1/16 - 1/19.

In Dr. King’s famous 1968 sermon “The Drum Major Instinct,” he described the importance of service in the context of a movement dedicated to changing public policies:


** “…everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.

** You don't have to have a college degree to serve.

** You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.
------------------------------------------------------------


** You don't have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve.

** You don't have to know Einstein's theory of relativity to serve.
------------------------------------------------------------


** You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve.

** You only need a heart full of grace, a soul
