Dear John,
Thank you for all you do in your community.
The holiday season invites us to slow down, reflect on how far we’ve come, and look ahead with renewed optimism. It’s a time to reconnect with loved ones, appreciate the moments that bring us together, and imagine what’s possible in the year ahead. Across California, the spirit of service, resilience, and community continues to shine—reminding us that when we invest in one another, we build a stronger future for all.
✨ Stockton Community Holiday Spotlight
Big thanks to Jason Lee, Vice Mayor of Stockton, for spreading holiday cheer throughout his district.🎄 ✨ At the 3rd Annual Toys for Joy event—hosted and coordinated by his nonprofit, Hollywood Cares —more than 3,000 children ages 10 and under were each able to select five gifts to place under their tree. 🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁
Adding an extra dose of holiday magic, the incredibly talented Tiffany Haddish returned as Mrs. Claus, bringing smiles, laughter, and unforgettable joy to families across the community.
The event was hosted at Aspire Stockton Secondary Academy , where volunteers and partners came together to ensure every child experienced the true spirit of the season. 🤝💫

✨ Farm to Fork Holiday Celebration
I was honored to attend the San Francisco Farm Bureau Farm to Fork Holiday & Awards Ceremony 🌾 ✨ , held at the Fermentation Lab owned by Jeannie Kim .
As a founding member of the Farm Bureau, it meant a great deal to see the vision we set years ago continue to grow—strengthening the connection between agriculture, education, and community. We remembered our first President, Ted Fang , and celebrated the leadership of current President Gary Soiseth .
I was especially proud to celebrate my dear friend and former Colfax Mayor Marnie Mendoza , who was honored as Ambassador of the Year 🎉🌟. Thank you as well to Cow Palace Executive Director Allison Keaney and the Board for their continued work promoting agriculture across our region.
If you’re interested in becoming a member of the San Francisco Farm Bureau, please connect with Jasmine Shih. 🌱

🐶 Celebrating Compassion for Senior Dogs 🐾
I want to give a special shout-out to Sherri Franklin , Founder and CEO of Muttville. 👏
A lifelong animal advocate, Sherri founded Muttville in 2007 with a bold and loving mission: to save senior dogs once deemed “unadoptable” and change how the world sees older pets. What began in her own home—saving 27 dogs in the first year—has grown into a beloved Bay Area nonprofit and a national model for senior dog rescue. 🐶 ❤️
Because of Sherri’s vision and leadership, thousands of senior dogs have found love, dignity, and forever homes. Muttville is always looking for volunteers to foster or spend time with these wonderful pups, and I’m grateful for the compassion they bring to our communities every day.

✨ SEIU Armenian Caucus Holiday Gathering
I was grateful to sponsor the SEIU Armenian Caucus Christmas Dinner 🎄, held at Arbat Banquet Hall in Burbank .
The Armenian community is deeply rooted in faith, family, resilience, and an unwavering respect for hard work—values that have carried generations forward and continue to strengthen working families today. 🤝 ✨ Being together in a space that honors Armenian culture and tradition, especially during the holidays, was a powerful reminder of the strength, dignity, and unity of this community. ❤️

✨ Holiday Celebration with the Peruvian Community
I was grateful to celebrate the holidays with the Peruvian community in the Bay Area at the Hyatt Regency . 🎄 ✨ It was a joyful holiday breakfast filled with laughter, tradition, and community—complete with Santa Claus bringing toys to children 🎅🎁, raffles, and a beautiful traditional Huaynito. 💃🏻🎶
It was wonderful to be joined by the General Consul of Peru, Miguel Miranda , and his wife Maria-Monica Budge Miranda —and happy birthday to her. 🎂🎉 Many thanks to Gladys Silva and Sarela Mazzini for organizing this beautiful gathering and bringing everyone together. 🤝❤️
Friends and families filled the room with Christmas carols and holiday cheer, reminding us of the strength, warmth, and cultural richness that make our communities so special during this season. 🎄 ✨

✨ CSAC 131st Annual Meeting
It was great seeing so many familiar faces at the California State Association of Counties Board of Directors Meeting during CSAC’s 131st Annual Meeting in San José .
Since 1895, CSAC has brought together all 58 counties—from Alpine’s smallest communities to Los Angeles’ largest—providing a strong, unified voice to address shared challenges and deliver results for Californians statewide.
Thank you to President Jeff Griffiths for his leadership, and congratulations to Incoming President Susan Ellenberg , 1st Vice President Luis Alejo , and 2nd Vice President Kent Boes . I’m also grateful to CEO Graham Knaus for guiding CSAC and the California Counties Foundation toward a forward-looking, policy-driven future for our counties. 🌟

✨ Supporting AAPI Businesses in the Inland Empire
I began my public service journey in 1994 as President of the original Asian Business Association in San Francisco, at just 28 years old. Speaking this week to the Asian Business Association of the Inland Empire truly felt like a full-circle moment. 🤍 ✨
The Inland Empire’s AAPI community is a powerful economic force—now representing roughly 7.4–8.1% of the region’s population , more than 341,000 residents , and the fastest-growing ethnic group , with 36% growth over the last decade . 📈 AAPI-owned businesses play a vital role across small business, trade, logistics, healthcare, and professional services.
I’m proud to continue supporting the entrepreneurs and small businesses that help drive California’s economy forward and strengthen our communities every day. 🤝 🌱

💬 Closing Thoughts
As we wrap up the year and holiday season, I’m reminded that California’s greatest strength has always been its people. From lifting up working families and small businesses, to celebrating our rich cultures and traditions, to caring for our neighbors—both two-legged and four-legged—these moments reflect the values that bind us together.
Each gathering, celebration, and conversation this season reinforced a simple truth: when we show up for one another, our communities thrive. I’m deeply grateful for the leaders, volunteers, organizers, and families who make this work possible every day.
As we close out, I hope this season brings you time to reflect, reconnect, and recharge—and that the new year ahead is filled with health, opportunity, and continued progress for all. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a bright start to the year ahead. 🎄 ✨
