Friend – I believe that, as Americans, we have a responsibility to build opportunity for one another and the next generation.

It's been the guiding light of my career in public service – but it didn't come out of nowhere. It was instilled by the people who made me who I am today. So I'd like to fill you in on that story and how it's shaped my campaign.

But that means this is going to be a longer email. So if you're short on time, before you click away, will you please chip in toward my $100,000 end-of-quarter goal ahead of our biggest fundraising deadline to date?

As some of you know, my mom was born in 1938 in Poland right before Hitler’s invasion. My mom and her parents were separated from each other for years during the war, but miraculously survived. After the war they went first to Sweden and to Mexico City and then to New York.

For my mom and her parents, America was a land of peace and freedom, a beacon of hope and opportunity and a chance to rebuild their shattered lives.

As her parents adjusted and started a business, Mom enrolled herself in New York City's public schools. She went on to be an elementary school librarian and married my dad – a dedicated public servant, like his dad before him. And eventually, they had me.

My parents made sure that we knew how lucky we were, that we didn't let the opportunities before us go to waste, and that we had an obligation to make the world a better place.

These are the same lessons my wife, Susan, and I strive to pass on to our daughters. They're what has motivated me to fight for reforms that make our economy work for everyone, not just the wealthiest few, every day throughout my years in the U.S. Senate.

But after watching Donald Trump spend all of 2025 taking a wrecking ball to our economy and the Constitution, and chipping away at democracy, it's clear he didn't learn the same things. Now, my generation is the first one at risk of handing our kids less opportunity, not more. It's an insult to the generations who came before us, like my parents and grandparents.

And with Trump's party holding the levers of power in the federal government, I'm not holding my breath for Washington to deliver the solutions to the problems we're facing. From lowering the costs of housing, health care, and child care to fighting government corruption to rebuilding the middle class, the solutions Colorado needs will have to start here in Colorado, by Coloradans.

So now, I feel obligated to keep fighting to make the world a better place, where I know I can make the biggest difference: back in my home state.

That's why I'm running for governor – and if you agree that our kids and grandkids deserve a governor who will fight for their future, then I hope you'll make an investment in our success by chipping in $5, $25, or anything you can to help me close the gap ahead of my final quarterly deadline coming up in eight days.
