Hi John,

What is your mission in the world?

I’m Patty, and I was in Immigrants Rising’s Fresno Entrepreneurship Academy. This is the question I ask myself often. Regardless of status, knowing the impact I want to leave allows me to be expansive and unlimited.

I joined the Fresno Entrepreneurship Academy to start my business alongside other immigrant entrepreneurs in the Central Valley. I was happy to be in a program where the staff listened to our needs specific to our situations, met us wherever we were in our entrepreneurship journey, and cheered us on to pursue what we really wanted to do.

For me, that’s promoting nutrition and wellness in our communities.

After working in the medical field for a long time, I found functional medicine and wellness as a way to nourish our bodies, live well, and prevent chronic and debilitating illnesses. And so, I strove to get my B.S. in Food Sciences at Fresno State, and found a way to start my career while generating income. From permits & certifications to the nitty-gritty details of being a business owner, the Entrepreneurship Academy prepared me for this journey. I’m limitless.

Spending time in the woods heals me. What do you do to nourish yourself?

At the end of the program, I pitched my business, Wealthy Bodies ([link removed]) , in front of judges and many others—it was so intimidating! But it was my chance to be brave. Although I felt fear in trying something new, I refused to feed it. After all, the Fresno Academy was my safe place to be surrounded by community. If I didn’t put myself out there, I wouldn’t have won second place!
