In just a few days, about 30 million people will see their $600 expanded unemployment payments come to an end.

These weekly checks have been a lifeline, allowing people to stay afloat and feed their families over the last few months.

Millions of us have endured massive economic hardship since the spring. We did it in order to do our part to help get the COVID-19 pandemic under control.

But instead, Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell decided to let the pandemic spiral OUT of control — and now they’re about to let this massive economic pain spiral out of control too.

We are staring down an economic catastrophe in a matter of days. Please add your name: Tell Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans to act immediately to provide relief to working families.

When the pandemic first hit the U.S., employers closed down and we stayed at home. We did this because our government told us it was necessary to buy them the time they needed to develop policies to suppress the virus.

But almost immediately, Trump and Republican governors started ignoring their public health experts and pressuring states to reopen early. And over in the Senate, Mitch McConnell started signaling that he WANTED to use the threat of hunger, homelessness, and even state bankruptcy to force states to reopen and workers to return to their jobs regardless of safety.

It wasn’t hard to predict what came next. Cases have surged in most states, new restrictions are being imposed in many of them, and a rapid economic recovery is looking less likely than ever. Yet for more than two months, McConnell and Senate Republicans have sat by and done nothing.

With time running out, we’re calling on Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans to immediately pass legislation that:

Extends the $600 unemployment insurance expansion. If we don’t, around 30 million workers could lose money that is keeping food on the table and the lights on.
Sends at least $1 trillion in aid to states and cities in order to stave off unthinkable cuts to schools and other essential services.
Doesn't let companies off the hook for dangerous working conditions. Stop the Republican proposal to allow companies to skirt health recommendations and endanger workers.

The truth is, these measures alone barely scratch the surface of what working people need to weather this storm.

Congress also needs to fund testing and other public health measures, provide for child care, cancel student debt, place a moratorium on evictions, and make sure billionaires and Wall Street banks are held accountable.
