It’s a Win for Illinois pension beneficiaries concerned about their retirement nest egg.
It’s a Win for the environment and future generations through a cleaner, healthier planet.
It’s a Win for Illinois taxpayers who will not have to pick up the slack from fossil fuel investments that are underperforming the market.

Background
Five Illinois’ state-funded public pension funds provide nearly a million employees and retirees with their nest egg for retirement. These funds represent about $129 Billion in investments.
A significant portion of these investments are with coal, oil, and natural gas companies. Burning fossil fuels is the biggest contributor to climate change, causing record-breaking temperatures globally and increasingly severe weather events, plus damaging the earth for our kids and future generations.
Moreover, fossil fuel stocks are riskier investments, underperforming the S&P 500 over the last decade, delivering the lowest performance and highest volatility of any sector over the period. New York, California, Maine, Oregon, and New York City adopted pension fund divestment laws. In addition, the City of Chicago, Loyola University of Chicago, The Field Museum, The MacArthur Foundation, and the Chicago Medical Society have divested or are in the process of divesting.
Lastly, Illinois is legally required to transition to 100% carbon-free power by 2045 under the 2021 Climate and Equitable Jobs Act. The FFDA supports progress towards this mandate.
Please join us to learn more about how the FFDA is a Win-Win-Win for Illinois, its pensioners, and its residents.
