Donald Trump falsely claims that convicted felon and election-tampering former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters “did nothing wrong.”
In fact, it was a Republican prosecutor who brought charges against Peters before a jury of her peers. She was convicted and sentenced to much less than the maximum time she could have gotten in prison.
Trump tried to pressure Governor Jared Polis to release Peters. When Polis refused, Trump called him a “sleazebag” and threatened “harsh measures” against Colorado.
Trump then tried to pardon Peters for state crimes, which the president cannot do.
What is really going on here? It’s simple: Trump knows that to encourage supporters to commit crimes on his behalf, he has to exonerate every MAGA felon that supported his Big Lie.
Tina Peters tampered with voting machines and sensitive election data in an effort to “prove” Trump’s nonsense claims that the 2020 election was fraudulent. MAGA is now watching to see if Trump will fight to get her released from prison.
