As an adoptee and impact producer, representation in film is deeply personal to me. I was first introduced to POV as a child, when my mother shared Wo Ai Ni Mommy (2010), a documentary about transnational and transracial adoption that mirrored my own experience. And it revealed the power of film to reflect lives often left unseen.
At American Documentary, I’ve seen how films featuring adoptees and nontraditional family structures—including Wo Ai Ni Mommy, Love & Stuff (2020), and Between Goodbyes (2025), among other POV titles—resonate most deeply when they reach the communities represented on screen, while also introducing these experiences to new audiences. This perspective informs my advocacy, as I help build the Adoptee Film Fest ([link removed]) .
Supporting POV and American Documentary makes this impact possible. Through intentional outreach and community partnerships, AmDoc ensures these films are not only broadcast, but meaningfully shared. Sustained support allows underrepresented stories to reach the people they are made for and to remain part of our public media landscape.
