In September, Arlo stood on a stage in front of 10,000 people at a rally and spoke a truth that captures everything about this moment:

Arlo joined United We Dream just last year as a freshman in college, looking for community and connection. Today, they're lobbying Congress. Leading campus organizing. Standing alongside movement leaders they once looked up to from afar, holding hands, chanting for a country free from authoritarianism and federal agents disappearing our friends and family.
But friend, this year hasn’t been easy.
Immigrant youth are more vulnerable than ever — not just because of the uncertainty of DACA’s future, but because of the growing hostility targeting our communities.
Immigration agents are snatching immigrants in our communities, throwing them into detention without any form of due process. Budget cuts stripped healthcare from our communities. In Texas, undocumented students lost access to in-state tuition this year.
The attacks aren't slowing down. Next year, members will continue defending to protect community members, fight budget cuts, and organize on campuses nationwide.
They'll do it because, as Arlo says, they eat, sleep, and breathe this work — not just as organizers, but as people whose families, friends, and themselves are being targeted.
Arlo puts it this way: "UWD has shown me that my humanity doesn't need to be separated from my organizing. Transformation and radical change begin when we bring our identities and stories to the table, and when movements are rooted in radical love."
