We’re talking about over five hundred people stripped of their freedom, over five hundred shattered lives. Among them is the outrageous case of Christophe Gleizes, a French sports journalist thrown behind bars in Algeria for reporting on a local football team. He’s preparing to spend his first Christmas in prison, as the court decided to uphold his seven-year sentence after his appeal trial on December 3rd 2025. Unless his sentence is overturned, he’ll be spending the next seven holiday seasons behind bars as well.
We’re also deeply concerned about Pham Doan Trang, the Vietnamese journalist unjustly imprisoned for five years, and Sevinj Vagifgizi, an Azerbaijani journalist, who will be spending her second holiday season behind bars. Unless things change, Sevinj will have to face the next nine New Year’s celebrations in prison, too…
