All New Yorkers, especially those with low incomes, deserve to have their voices heard. As a reporter at City Limits, I’m here to listen to them - our neighbors who struggle just to put food on the table, to keep a roof over their heads, and to make ends meet.

Earlier this year, in a conversation between City Limits reporters and NYCHA residents, residents raised the issue of benefits stolen from their EBT cards, with most I spoke to knowing someone affected by the theft of food assistance money.

City Limits’ investigation revealed that thousands of low-income New Yorkers lost over $14 million in SNAP benefits in just six months after the federal reimbursement program ended. These are not just statistics. These are seniors, children, parents, grandparents, siblings, and our neighbors.

Our work at City Limits depends on support from people like you who believe in journalism rooted in communities, that listens first, and reports second. As an independent nonprofit, right now we are in a critical year end fundraising drive to raise support that ensures stories like these will continue to be told. Will you help us reach goal of $40,000 with a donation today? Every dollar will be matched by Newsmatch up to $1000 through December 31st.

With gratitude,
Daniel Parra
