Dear John,
This season, OCCRP has reflected on stories that highlight the joy of justice – flashes of justice amidst a sea of corruption.

OCCRP has made it a habit to follow how wealthy criminals breach sanctions for profit and power. And this year, we caught several in the act.

While families in Kyiv sheltered from bombardment, a network of businessmen was making money. They shipped dual-use technology to Russia, skirting international sanctions via Kazakhstan and Belarus. When challenged, they claimed they weren't "really" dealing in arms — just microchips and industrial machinery. But their clients, contractors of the Russian Ministry of Defence, were using these articles to produce the very same ammunition that was raining down on Kyiv.

OCCRP reporters traced the supply chains and the timelines, and now these “businessmen” grace the pages of international sanctions lists.

Help us sanction more nasty scrooges in the new year. Support OCCRP.
