Calling bullshit on climate denial and delay
In 2006, when DeSmog launched as a scrappy blog calling bullshit on climate denial and delay, we aimed to “clear the PR pollution clouding climate science.” Right now, the clouds may feel like monsoons at times, but DeSmog’s intrepid journalists and researchers continue to shine powerful disinfectants through plenty of stormy weather.
We do it with the help of readers who chip in whatever they can to keep our climate accountability journalism going [[link removed]].
For examples of what readers like you make possible, just look to the work of journalist Rebecca John. This year, she uncovered that BP, Shell, and other oil majors use cultural sponsorships, ranging from the Girl Scouts to arts groups, in order to block climate action, according to industry documents.
A Labour MP cited her investigation during parliamentary debate on whether the UK government should ban fossil fuel advertising.
Thanks to the hundreds of readers who already donated recently, we’ll beam more rays of accountability on the powerful into 2026.
They donated because they believe in DeSmog’s unique brand of climate accountability journalism and they want to defend it.
Will you join them by pitching in with a gift right now? [[link removed]] Help us reach our goal of 500 donors by the end of the year.
YES, COUNT ME IN! [[link removed]]
Thanks to reader support, we hired a Global Research Director to lead our talented team of researchers across the globe.
This year, after combing through IRS 990s and collecting terabytes of public data, they added 70 new profiles in our research databases, covering everything from climate disinformation to agribusiness greenwash. And they meticulously updated countless others in our stable of more than 1,000 existing database profiles.
Journalists, researchers, lawyers, professors, and activists rely on our reporting and research for the important work they do.
For instance, an Oregon law professor recently said he plans to use Stella Levantesi’s reporting on Europe’s worrying rise of SLAPP lawsuits — frivolous suits designed to intimidate those fighting in the public interest — in his class materials on human rights. We’ll keep fighting in the public interest too.
Will you stand with us by making a donation right now? [[link removed]]
YES, I WILL! [[link removed]]
If you’ve been meaning to give, the moment has come — right now. We can only do this work with the support of DeSmog readers like you.
Unite with those who not only read, share, and turn our work into impact — join our community of supporters who make a one-time or sustaining donation today [[link removed]].
Together we build a stronger, more just community for the planet and each other.
Thanks for being a part of DeSmog.
