Dear John,
Tomorrow, the House of Representatives will vote to end the Muslim ban.
Since that first fateful week in 2017 when the President imposed a ban on our loved ones, we’ve seen Donald Trump slowly and methodically undermine civil liberties and endanger communities across the United States. And we have consistently fought back by building our political power and making our voices heard.
Passing the NO BAN Act will mark a critical milestone in our effort and signal that this discriminatory ban will soon be overturned. While NIAC has secured a public commitment from Joe Biden to repeal the Muslim Ban on day 1 if elected, a new President will face a multitude of crises and urgent issues when entering office and we need to ensure repealing the Ban remains a top priority -- passing the NO BAN Act helps ensure repealing the Ban will remain a top priority for a future Administration.

Additionally, the House will also vote on Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s Access to Counsel Act—which she introduced after her Iranian-American constituents were held overnight at the border without answers or access to a lawyer. As many of us who have travelled abroad or have had family travel during the Trump Administration know, the fear of what may happen at the border and the uncertainty around the protection of our rights is palpable. Jayapal's efforts would ensure that Americans, green card holders, and visa holders -- including Iranian students who have faced intimidation and deportation -- will have access to a lawyer at the border.
With the support of our members and partners, the Iranian-American community is building the political power we need to ensure that targeted discriminatory actions against the Iranian-American community and other vulnerable communities are defeated. Together, we can protect our civil liberties and build a brighter future both for the Iranian-American community and all Americans.
Best,
Ryan Costello
