It’s becoming more and more difficult to “escape” the brutal realities of these times…no longer can we press pause on the everyday demands of collective liberation and wellbeing in the face of so much suffering. To survive and thrive together, we must learn to integrate ritual and remembering wherever we are.
Wellness sells us the lie that ritual requires exclusive access, special circumstances or fancy adornments. But ritual is simply an act of intention that invites us to let go of the rational and conditioned mind so that we can make room for the mystical and creative being. Rituals mark transitions and make space for imagination. And they are essential for sustaining our path and unleashing possibility.
Here are some simple ways to bring ritual into your everyday:
🗾 Environment: Creating the space for ritual including symbols, nature, structure and sensory elements.
🕯️ Invocation: Opening the space by inviting in that which exists beyond the material and individual. This can be ancestors, spiritual/natural forces, medicine, sound, prayer, etc.
🔥 Transformation: An activity that represents the transformation or transition we are seeking like burning with fire, washing with waters, writing/speaking, gifting, commitment, etc.
🌀 Closure: All rituals require closing the space with a gesture or art that affirms our shared sacredness. This can be song, dance, prayer, poetry, etc.
When we make space for rest and reflection, we expose everything that is in the way of our becoming - unhealed wounds, old stories, limiting beliefs - so that we can step into what’s next with power and precision.
