The following week, we hosted our annual gingerbread house decorating party. We had 23 gingerbread houses in all! We had hot chocolate and chili simmering on the stove while grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins gathered around the table. Ralph’s brothers and sisters, their spouses, and their grandchildren joined us, and the house was full of joy, frosting, and a little bit of friendly competition.

Tomorrow morning is one of my favorite traditions of all. We will gather for our Christmas Eve breakfast and enjoy Ralph’s mama’s famous cinnamon rolls. After breakfast we open presents, play games, read the Christmas story, and then end our day together at the Christmas Eve service at church.


These traditions may seem small, but they are the moments that matter most. They are the moments that remind us why family is such a blessing and why faith must always come first. Ralph holds these same values close to his heart, and I know they guide him in everything he does.


As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, my prayer is that your home is filled with peace, love, and joy. I hope you are able to spend time with those you love and reflect on the incredible gift we were given through the birth of Jesus.
