On the heels of a major legal victory last Wednesday upholding strong standards to prevent the methane leaking and venting from oil and gas operations on public and tribal lands, our legal team helped secure another major court ruling on Friday when the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California affirmed California’s coordination with Quebec to cap and reduce climate pollution is constitutional.
EDF joined with our colleagues at NRDC to intervene in the case on behalf of California to both defend its crucial protections addressing climate pollution and to ensure that given the absence of national leadership, states should be allowed to implement innovative solutions to make progress and reduce climate pollution.
As our senior attorney Erica Morehouse put it, “When the federal government fails to provide sound leadership… EDF will continue to stand up for California and for all states that are taking the reasonable actions they deem most effective to protect people from the grave threats of climate change.”
