Friend, – I've spent decades fighting to protect our public lands, and I can tell you without a doubt: we've never faced a threat like this.
In less than a year, the Trump administration has unleashed a wave of unprecedented rollbacks designed to clear the way for more drilling, more mining, more logging, and more destruction on the lands that belong to all of us.
Meanwhile, Congressional representatives have repeatedly tried to sell off public lands to private interests. Senator Mike Lee tried to sell off millions of acres of national forests and other public lands this summer. Just last week, he proposed an amendment that would open the door to selling our national parks to the highest bidder. We stopped him for now, but it's clear he – and others in the pocket of special interests – won't stop there.
It has truly been a free-for-all. They're skipping environmental reviews, letting developers move ahead with potentially catastrophic projects. They're weakening the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), which would effectively overturn decades of environmental policy. They are rewriting long-standing rules to force their dirty energy agenda into our old-growth forests, wildlife habitat, recreation areas, and some of the last intact ecosystems we have left on Earth. They're doing everything in their power to allow billionaires and corporate polluters to take over as much public land as possible and take away access from the people.
These threats are serious, Friend — but so is our resolve and so is our movement. With your support, we can keep our public lands public. Your gift today will give us the leverage we need to say, loud and clear: our public lands are not for sale.
With hope,
