Dear John,

We’re nearing the end of the year, and as we approach 2026 it is clear that the environment in Maine and our democracy need strong defenders. What keeps us moving forward at Maine Conservation Voters (MCV), even in the toughest moments, is the support of our dedicated MCV members.

None of our work is possible without members like you, John. We can’t do it without you, so our important work begins with your generous gift.

Today, I want to share a story from one of our supporters, Terra Gallo. Terra is just one of the many incredible people in Maine who is dedicated to a cleaner, healthier future for all Mainers. She lives in Portland, Maine. This is Terra’s story:

“Growing up, my mom worked as a Wildlife Biologist at Maine Audubon so I spent my time exploring the beaches, mountains, lakes and forests in Maine. My mom worked on citizen science projects and I joined her for loon talks at lake associations across the state that helped people learn more about loons and understand threats to loons like lead fishing equipment. These experiences really shaped my love of the outdoors and my understanding of risks to plants, animals, and natural spaces across Maine.

It also helped me understand the importance of fighting to protect the environment in Maine, and the power of political advocacy and organizing to make change happen. This led me to MCV.

MCV's political advocacy and organizing work was part of the reason that the ballot measure to limit absentee voting (Question 1) did not succeed. Unfortunately, our voting rights are not safe and there will always be those who seek to strip people of their rights for their own political gain. MCV’s political advocacy, as well as their coalition building, is essential to safeguard our voting rights and protect our democracy broadly so that all people can have a say in the decisions that impact them.”

John, this work and your impact matters. Please join Terra and make a gift today to help MCV defend voting rights, strengthen our democratic systems, and continue fighting for a clean, healthy Maine.
