Right now, Congress is trying to push through the National Defense Authorization Act which would authorize a record-breaking $740 billion defense budget.
That is outrageous.
For years, I have fought against our countries over-investment in the military -- starting with the fight for nuclear non-proliferation.
And since then, our defense budget has only become more bloated. All the while special interests and contractors have lobbied for more money to line their own pockets.
So here's the plan: Cut 10% of the Pentagon's budget to reinvest instead in our communities -- directed toward health care, education, and housing.
That is a far better use of our spending and will have tangible outcomes for our nation's security and well-being.
