BREAKING: Partial u-turn on IHT for agricultural and business property

On our visits around the country, we’ve been telling supporters that amidst all the punishing tax hikes, we have to redouble our efforts. That pressure and campaigning works. That this government is brittle, despite its majority.

And this morning, the government snuck out a partial u-turn on the family farm and family business taxes they announced last year. The £1million Agricultural and Business Property Reliefs threshold will be increased to £2.5million from April 2026.

That shows what we can do when we fight together, when we refuse to take the punishment lying down.

The changes are OK - but it’s not good enough. We have to keep fighting back against these tax hikes that not only create economic havoc, but upend an entire way of life for British people.

Eventually, Inheritance Tax should be scrapped entirely.

But in the meantime, we’ll step up our fight on the pernicious removal of reliefs for the backbone of the British economy.
